Zoom, Royal Selangor's latest collection of christening gifts, is inspired by every little (and big) boy's obsession with high speed. Zoom's aesthetic is an homage to the early days of industrial design, science fiction and boys' comics of the early 20th century.
Five vehicles represent the world of high speed land, sea and air transport. The classic open wheeler racing car of the 60s lends its form to a trinket box, the toothbox's voluptuous lines are reminiscent of aircraft from the 40s, and the iconic submarine becomes a document holder. The coin box looks to vintage Riva speedboat styling, and the eggcup stands on retro-futuristic rocket fins. |
